There are verses in the Holy Bible, in the first chapter of Genesis: "And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good." Truly, light is wonderful. We couldn't live without light. Green plants grow towards light (phototropism), because it's needed to make food. There's a microscopic protist (one cell) that can swim towards light. It has a red stigma - an eyespot - a light sensor. Light is energy. It can change some chemical substances - darken them (silver salts, for example). This was the basis of the first photography. Without a camera, man ray made images with some things on the prepared paper. In a darkened room, he shone a light for a short time. Here's a "Rayograph" - it shows where the shadows were - a shadow-graph. The deepest shadows show pure white - it is a negative image. You can recognise objects by their shapes. Some of them have a sharp outline. A wineglass is harder to see. And a fluffy dandelion?
