hep gwely na lusk,

An Arluth byhan, Jesu,

yn cres ef a gusk;

Sterennow a'n ebren,

a vyr war woles,

An Arluth byhan, Yesu,

yn gora settyes.

A-bera en Presep,

heb gwily na lêsk,

An Arlòdh bian, Jesu,

en cres ev a gòsk;

Sterednow a'n eborn,

a vir war wòles,

An Arlòdh bian, Jesu,

en gora settyes.

Ma lies imach meurgerys a'n eborn nos ha presebow lenwys gen gora (po nebes gwag marnas lysten).  














I found a little old book called "Canow Nadelek" (Christmas Songs). They are carols and Christmas hymns. The orthography is not up to date. Can I translate one song? Here's the first verse in two forms.

In a manger,

without bed nor cradle,

The little Lord, Jesus,

he sleeps in peace;

Stars in the sky,

look downwards,

The little Lord, Jesus

placed in hay.


There are many popular images of the night sky and mangers filled with hay (or a bit empty  except for a swaddling cloth).
