I like little things. When I was young, I collected postage stamps and little china horses. In my work I looked at bacteria and cross-sections of bodies with a microscope. Now I like drawings made with a fine pen. I like details. I have difficulty painting loosely. I study style and method very closely. Who did many hand prints in a cave? Perhaps women. Look at the details on the hands in prayer by Dürer. You can see every vein and wrinkle. Is this a hand among the flowers by a modern artist? Frida Kahlo painted her hand earrings. They were a present from Picasso, but the picture was a gift to the doctor who cured her hand. And the angels have hands in the Book of Kells (sometimes with long fingers!).
