Ahead of the bicycles there were many official cars (and for news media and VIPs) and police officers on motorbikes. There were more cars and motorbikes following the riders. Many cars were support cars with spare bicycles. There was a breakdown van, for the cars, and an ambulance, in case anyone should be ill or injured.
